FAQ

 

Q: What hot runner system do your preform molds use, and how do you prevent gate drooling?

A: We utilize a proprietary valve-gated hot runner system engineered with individual pneumatic piston cylinders for each cavity. The valve pins are mechanically driven to close the gate cleanly before the mold opens. This completely eliminates gate drooling, stringing, and un-melted "cold slugs" at the injection point, leading to crisp, flat gates.

Q: How do you achieve optimal cooling to keep cycle times under 10 seconds for water preforms?

A: We use a "spiral cooling channel" layout inside each core and cavity insert, maximizing the surface area exposed to chilled water. Additionally, the thread area utilizes high-heat-conductivity copper alloy inserts (Ampco 940). When paired with an efficient external mold dehumidifier and 6°C chilled water, this setup achieves sub-10-second cycle times for lightweight water preforms (under 15g).

Q: Are your mold components (cores, cavities, neck rings) interchangeable if one gets damaged?

A: Yes, 100%. Because we machine all components on high-precision 5-axis CNC mills with a component tolerance of ±0.005mm, every core, cavity, slide, and neck ring is fully interchangeable. If a component is damaged by operator error, we can ship an exact replacement via serial number tracking without requiring you to ship the mold back.

Q: How does your mold design prevent the "short shot" or air-trapping issue?

A: Air trapping usually happens when gas cannot escape the cavity fast enough during high-speed injection. Our molds incorporate specialized, micro-grooved venting slots around the neck ring split faces and the parting lines. These vents are wide enough to let air escape freely but narrow enough (under 0.01mm) to prevent PET resin from flashing out.

Q: Can your molds handle high percentages of Recycled PET (rPET)?

A: Yes. However, rPET contains highly abrasive microscopic particulates and releases more corrosive acidic outgassing during melting. To combat this, we recommend upgrading the core and cavity steel to Electro-Slag Remelting (ESR) stainless steel with additional titanium/chrome surface coatings (such as PVD coating) to double the wear resistance.

Q: What is the lead time for a 48-cavity PCO 1881 preform mold from design to shipment?

A: A standard 48-cavity mold requires 45 to 60 calendar days. This timeframe includes 7-10 days for final product/mold design approval, 30 days for precision CNC machining, heat treatment, and assembly, and 7 days for in-house testing, sample optimization, and final CMM compliance auditing.
